Defy
the World was made from an actual
factory label from the early 1920's - not a
reprint but a genuine antique canning label I
purchased at auction. Victorian style house,
fancy lettering and big juicy ripe tomato
advertising Defy the World Brand Cold
Packed Tomatoes Packed By Sam'l L Kelty &
Son all contribute to a very attractive
picture... canning labels just aren't this pretty
anymore, are they? Of course back then they
weren't required to list ingredients, nutrition
facts and other info as they are today.. makes
for an interesting conversaion piece. The label
has been mounted with acid-free adhesive. The
puzzle is oblong and measures 13 3/8"
X 4 1/2". There is an average of 2.1
pieces per square inch. Puzzle has been
cut from 1/4" 5-ply Baltic Birch using
blades with a thickness of just 0.008!
My "key"
signature piece (signed, numbered, and dated
on the back) is the only figural in the
puzzle.
This puzzle is my 4th long arm style
puzzle. The pieces connect via arms instead of
knobs.
Puzzle
interlocks very well.
About half of the puzzle shown in the scan
below illustrating how the pieces fit together:
Puzzle comes with
the beautiful wood box with hinged
lid (shown below) that looks like an old
treasure chest. I purchased this box new, and
finished the outside with stain and varnish. I
believe this is basswood. My label is affixed to
the inside of the lid with the puzzle title,
number, and piece count. The box measures 6 1/2"
X 4 1/4" X 4" high.
Note:
This puzzle contains small pieces which may
present a choking hazard to children. It has been
designed for adults or older children and is
not meant for young children.
