Wagon
Train was made from a vintage art
print which I purchased at auction. This is an
actual print from the 1930's and not a new
reproduction - what I found especially intriguing
is the way the painting was done. There are no
sharp lines between color, rather the colors
gently blend into one another and there is also a
splattering of colors throughout, if you examine
it closely. I don't know how else to describe it.
When viewing the completed puzzle, you don't see
the cuts through the wood as you often do but
instead it looks almost like the actual print did!
It's the first puzzle that turned out like this
and I was quite surprised. I also got two other
30's prints in the same lot and look forward to
doing those ones to see if the effect is similar!
If I had to choose a favorite puzzle up to this
point, this would have to be it. The print has
been mounted with acid-free adhesive. The puzzle
measures 12" X 16".
There is an average of 1.9 pieces per square
inch. Puzzle has been cut from 1/4" 5-ply
Baltic Birch using blades with a thickness of 0.010
This puzzle
contains the greatest number of
figurals I have included in any one
puzzle yet! Compared to how many pieces there
are, it is also jam-packed full of them! Twelve
of them are simple figurals and six are complex
figurals (multi-piece figurals). Only one is
color-line cut (was part of the print itself) -
see the cowboy riding the horse, holding rifle at
lower right quadrant.. Complete figural list
follows:
There are 18 figurals,
including my "Key" signature piece.
Cowboy Hat
Cowboy Boot
Cowboy on Horse * (3 pieces)
another Cowboy on Horse * (part of print,
6 pieces)
Cowboy Standing
Indian with Rifle
Indian Chief * (2 pieces)
Buffalo
Bear
Vase (Pueblo)
Horseshoe
Texas Longhorn - Steer Head
Covered Wagon * (5 pieces)
Cactus (Saguaro)
6 Shooter Gun
Eagle * (3 pieces)
Steam Engine Locomotive * (4 pieces)
"Key" signature piece
(The back of the Key is
signed, numbered, and dated.)
Of these figurals, six are complex figurals (multi-piece
figurals; see asterisks)
This puzzle cut
in knobby style - highly interlocking.
Puzzle comes
disassembled inside the beautiful wood
box with sliding lid shown below.
This box is handbuilt, made from solid 3/8"
pine with the sliding lid made from 3-ply birch.
The outside is finished with stain and varnish,
and is nice and glossy. My label is affixed to
the outside of the box with the puzzle title,
number, and piece count. The box measures approx
6" X 11" X 5" high.
Note:
This puzzle contains small pieces which may
present a choking hazard to children. It has been
designed for adults or older children and is
not meant for young children.
